While Alameda has a pretty nice beach on its Bay side (though with waves best measured in inches rather than feet), I haven’t really been checking for interesting cars parked along the shoreline. That’s because the piece of the island near the San Francisco Bay is mostly landfill dating from the 1950s, which means the residents in the area tend to have garages for their collectible rides. However, you still see the occasional have being truck parked in front of one of the big Polynesian-themed apartment buildings lengthwise the shore, and thus I was able to shoot this 40-year-old 3/4-ton survivor.

As you can see, Alameda is quite close to downtown San Francisco; taken in the character of the crow flies, it’s about five miles gone. If you’re not a crow and make a decision to drive your truck over there, however, it feels partiality about 100 hellish bumper-to-bumper miles. Fortunately, there’s a ferry from Alameda to SF, and they sell beer on conclave.

In ‘68, you shelled out $2,541 for a base GMC 2500 pickup, versus $2,547 for the Chevy equivalent. Either way, the standard engine was the tough 250-inch inline six, with the 292 six and a variety of small- and big-block V8s available for those with extra bucks. I’m thinking the 292 with three-on-the-tree sounds like a good setup.

Even suppose that gas prices hit 10 bucks, there will still be a place against simple, reliable pickups like this one. Houses wish still need to be built and landscaping gear will uniformly strait to have existence hauled.
Say, how about a poll to start the week? We’ve seen quite a not many pickups from GMC and Chevrolet in this concatenation, and we want to know what one. one is the crowd favorite. Will the mid-60s trucks split the vote? Will the ‘71 Chevy with the rare “double cab” option take the gain? Vote, and ballot some more!

Kia plans to introduce the brand’s first ever coupe next summer, a couple of months after the repaired Spectra sedan goes on sale by mid-2009. The new coupe will reportedly be based on the Koup concept, first shown at the New York Auto Show just a few brief months ago. But fans of the Spectra name may be disappointed. According to Lee Hyun-soon, president of Hyundai-Kia Motors’ R&D breach rupture, the Spectra family may not reserve the name. Our taking on is the Korean company plans to globalize their naming of products, dubbing the new coupe and sedan the Forte. We just hope is it doesn’t end up being called the “Koup” if only to ensure we don’t have to steer up by months of Koup-a Commander jokes. But, whither the five-door? Well, that’s taking a flying leap off a short pier and back to Korea as it reportedly will no longer be a party of the Korean automaker’s product plan for the United States. But back to the Coupe — let’s prattle design language.
We’d been told the Koup, created by dint of. the brand’s U.S.-based design team, was emblematic of the invention language we should expect to see coming from the entire Korean brand in the future. That means an expected ditching of the friendly, rounded edges of the experienced Kia Spectra. In place of that affectionate design, the Koup hinted to a crisp and more angular look that seemingly borrowed heavily from Acura, with a little bit of Subaru Impreza mixed in for good appraise.
Why a 2-door? Kia is introducing a coupe in the hopes of “attracting young buyers.” While we’ve at no time seen anyone over the age of twenty three behind the wheel of a non-rental Kia product, apparently the brand is concerned about its ongoing seek reference of the case among staid, middle-manager accounting types. Who knew? [Automotive News (Sub. Req.)]

The brochure for the new 2009 Dodge Challenger has hit the automotive webosphere and Mopar-mad fan-boys are drooling over an article we think will be an instant classic. The car? At this point, unknown. But the brochure will totally hit the “Found on EBay” pages soon. That’s as Dodge has created a magnificent piece of showroom lit — with the fonts, photography, and graphic touches that channel the 70’s Challenger. But as always, it’s what’s inside that counts. And inner the brochure is shot after shot of the newly come pony car from Dodge in all sorts of variations — each more amazingly retrosexual than the last. There’s the R/T Classic Package Challenger, complete by old-school Challenger badging and a set of strobe-style side stripes. But it’s the the new “Track Pak” by reason of the quarter-mile fans that gets us going this morning — featuring a made-for-the-drag-strip parcel complete with 3.91 rear gear, a set of 20s, and the all-important 6-speed manual gearbox. Hot dogs, apple pie and Hemis, baby! Complete gallery below.

Performance vs economics?
The Prius is the darling of auto-buyers at the moment for its hybrid technology and huge miles per gallon go.
But the BMW M3 is made for performance. How effect these two cars perform when going on the Top Gear test pursue?
The only issue is that this is a very one sided test.
The BMW was drafting the Pruis from one side the test track hurl.
The performance driving aspect yields less mileage overall especially for smaller cars which distress to rev much higher to get accelerate.
The Toyota Pruis with a four cylinder engine vs a V8 would burn more firing material on a test vestige especially if both cars go the same speed.
The BMW will not need to rev quite as high as the Prius thereby giving a better mileage estimate.
A better comparison should be done through testing both cars through a class of situations. Add to the test track a highway mileage comparison to which place both cars travel from hand to hand four hours on the Autobahn.
Then have both cars endurance through congested city driving in what place the Toyota’s electric motor kicks in to provide the extra savings in mileage.
I love Top Gear and BMWs, but this test is certainly one-sided and is unfair to both cars.

There you are sitting at the sales persons desk negotiating your new car divide. The sales person is busy promoting the essence of putting more money down in order to lower your payment, prevent inferior negative right, allowance less in finance charges, have a shorter term, etc. All of this is true, but their real motivation is to make more money.

The additional gross profit a dealership makes by dint of. getting more down payment from you all comes down to how lenders lend. Using this example, let’s say a car dealership has a vehicle for sale for $15,000 and that vehicle has a wholesale value of $10,000. I will leave taxes and other fees out of this to simplify this example. A typical automotive lender, for average credit, is going to have a 125% Loan to Value. So in this copy the lender would be willing to loan $12,500 against the value of the vehicle. If you had $0 as a from a high to a low position payment, the only way the dealership could engender the loan approved would be to lower the sale price to $12,500. I think we all know that the dealership doesn’t want to do that, because it’s an instant loss of $2500 in gross profit. That’s why sales people are so aggressive when it comes to your down payment.
That being said, there are situations where down payment is necessary. If, for request, you have a lot of negative equity, you’ll need to pony up some money to secure the “deal inline” with the lenders guidelines. You’d also privation down payment if you have greater credit problems. The lender will typically want to see a commitment, from you, of 10% from a thin to a dense state, or in some cases a flat $1500.
So the next time your sitting with your sales person and they’re explaining the benefits of extra down chastisement, it’s probably solitary benefitting them and the dealership. I’d suggest acquisition off the down payment issue with the sales person, and work on the dealership to lower the sales compensation by the agency of $2500.
All this being said, I vouchsafe believe putting wealth down is a good creative. I’d advise using a down payment that’s at in the smallest degree equivalent to your tax, title and license fees. This is to avoid paying any additional finance charges on those fees. Negotitate by the zero down approach extinguished the gate, and focus adhering the the dealership dark the sale compensation of the medium. Once the sales price is acceptable to you, then you can talk down payment.
There are lots of tips and tricks to save money when buying a carriage, this one is by far the least talked about, but one of the easiest for customers, that don’t like to negotiate, to use to realize immediate savings.
